Luncheons for our local school staffs

Walnut Hill United Methodist Church showed support for local schools by hosting luncheons for Cigarroa Elementary and Thomas Jefferson High School during staff in-service week prior to the start of school.

On August 17th, 75 staff members from Cigarroa Elementary enjoyed lasagna and salad prepared by the United Methodist Women. The next day, the United Methodist Men served fried chicken, baked beans and potato salad to approximately 130 staff members from Thomas Jefferson; both events took place in the Walnut Hill UMC Fellowship Hall. It was an opportunity for the school staffs to relax and enjoy a meal and fellowship with each other in the midst of a hectic week of preparation for the new school year.

The Cigarroa event capped off a summer long effort by the members of Walnut Hill UMC to provide the teachers with some special supplies for their classrooms. Last spring, the teachers were asked for a ‘wish list’. Over the summer the members of WHUMC went to work fulfilling that list. The church held a Pie Auction on July 4th to raise money and sponsored an ‘Apple Tree’ (just like an Angel Tree) for members to purchase specific items requested by the teachers.

After lunch on the 17th, the teachers were given the items from their wish lists, causing one teacher to exclaim “this is like Christmas!” The church plans to provide continuing support throughout the school year and looks forward to similar opportunities with both schools.
 

Intercessory Prayer Ministry

This ministry is in its infancy, just beginning to establish some short term goals, as well as a model for further development of the ministry. Praying for others is at the root of Christian belief as we follow the example of Jesus Christ; therefore, we are charged, as a body to be in prayer for one another. Come and join us as we seek to develop an Intercessory Prayer Ministry for our congregation.

The Fall Women’s Retreat
September 24 - 26, Prothro Methodist Conference Center on Lake Texoma

Led by the Rev. Jo Biggerstaff, it's a chance for a change of pace in hopes that you will be able to truly “retreat” from your busy lives.
