I suppose faith sometimes feels that way. We put in the hours of Bible study or prayer, faithful service to the church or outreach to our community and may never see the rewards of our hard work. But just like the Olympians who we watch with jaws dropped in awe, there are those who are watching your faith and are inspired. I know, because I am one of those.
I could name 3 dozen people in this church alone whose stories inspire me daily to live more faithfully: Widows who find the strength to keep living despite losing their life long partner; Businessmen who are able to balance work, family and church in a healthy manner; Divorcees who courageously raise children single-handly; Leaders who offer countless hours in service to our church; Long time members who offer wisdom that surpasses the decades; Moms who know what it means to be truly good friends to one another; Cancer survivors who face every treatment and doctor's appointment with hope; Teachers who offer the gospel in new and refreshing ways. You do it all so effortlessly, but I know it has been nights of tears, tireless efforts of study, and countless hours of prayer that have made you into the athletes of the faith that you are.
So in this season of the Olympics, I want to thank you for your witness to the faith.
You win the gold.
In Christ's love,
