School Supplies for Cigarroa Elementary
Each year we collect school supplies prior to the Cigarroa teacher's back to school luncheon to help kick off a great start to the year for our neighborhood students. Please stop by the atrium to pick up some "apples" to see what's needed. Donations may be brought to the Welcome Desk or church office. Contact Rick Hill for more information.
Project Transformation After-School Program Needs You!
The purpose of this after-school literacy program is to provide holistic programming in Project Transformation’s four pillar areas of:
For the 2016-17school year, Walnut Hill UMC will serve as a host site for Project Transformation’s After-School Program (ASP) for elementary students.
All curriculum and activities each week are related to at least one of four learning areas. Components of the program are:
- Reading Time,
- Educational and Academic Enrichment Activities,
- Healthy Living Lessons and Physical Activities (if able),
- Bible Lessons, and
- Art Enrichment Activities.
At the 2015 North Texas Annual Conference, Bishop Mike McKee presented the “One + One” program, which encourages United Methodists to be involved and to make a positive difference in the life of a child. The mission of the One + One program states:
“North Texas United Methodists will encourage children to live into the abundant life God desires for them by mentoring and tutoring in one-on-one relationships between our parishioners and children in public schools. We believe our ongoing relationships can change the lives of children and United Methodists and transform communities.” (2016)
