Weekly Financial Update for week of July 2, 2015

Christ's Foundry United Methodist Church

As you may know Walnut Hill Methodist Church is one of the original seven covenant churches who back in 2002 agreed to support Christ's Foundry by its prayers, gifts, presence and service.  Walnut Hill has provided this support in a powerful fashion in the past, but being a covenant church means we need to continue to provide this support.  The covenant church idea is a new model for the United Methodist Church which is made necessary by the poverty in our nearby neighborhood.  As an example of that poverty the census tract Walnut Hill is located has an average household income of $125,000 (one of the highest in Dallas County) while just south on Webb Chapel the census tract Christ's Foundry has an average household income of $27,000 (one of the lowest in Dallas County). The zip code area where Christ's Foundry is located has twice the poverty rate as Walnut Hill’s zip code.  Christ's Foundry is a strong part of our community where the membership and services to the community continue to grow in such programs as Project Transformation, Wednesday Night Fiestas, teaching youth guitar, and many others.  It helps make our area neighborhoods stronger and safer.  Its physical presence adds to the positive values that project to the people, you can often here the bells ringing from their tower.  This is why they need our continued financial support.
