Meet Our Pastor: Rev. Wally Williams

Wally was born and raised in Dallas and went to Lake Highlands High School. He continued his education at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. He received a degree in Intrapersonal Communications and minor in Broadcasting. When he was 19, he received the “call” from God to pursue ministry as an ordained pastor in The United Methodist Church (UMC). While in college, he pastored a three-point charge of United Methodist churches known as a “circuit.” These churches were located near Lake Sam Rayburn.
Wally initially attended seminary at Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky, although finished his education at Perkins School of Theology, Southern Methodist University. He became a provisional deacon in 1986 and was ordained an elder in full connection in 1988. He has been serving United Methodist Churches in the North Texas Annual Conference for over 30 years. |
Wally is married to his best friend and love of his life, Kitty. Kitty currently is the Director of Music at the First United Methodist Church in Garland and has been there for 12 years. Prior to that, she served as the Choir Director at Wesley United Methodist in Greenville for seven years.
Kitty and Wally have three children - Kenna, Ryan and Lindsey. Kenna is married to Anthony and is the new mother of Wally's first grandchild, Rowan. Kenna, the oldest, works for a nonprofit advertising agency in Washington D.C. Ryan, the middle child, also lives in Washington D.C. and works as a researcher for National Geographic magazine. The youngest daughter, Lindsey, is newly married to Kevin and works for New York Life Insurance in Seattle, Washington.
Wally has a passion to connect with God’s creation by going fly fishing in northern streams. Wading in cool trout streams, with rod in hand, is a spiritually enriching time for him. This leads to his favorite verse in the Bible, the words of Christ, “Come and follow me and I will make you fishers of men [and women]” (Matthew 4:19). Another hobby of Wally's includes rooting for Texas teams, especially baseball!
Wally loves being a pastor and is enamored to serve the church for one reason, “the church can accomplish so much as they work together. Together, with God’s spirit and with each other we can help minister to people who are in need.”
