Our Beliefs

As a United Methodist Church (UMC), we are in connection with other United Methodist Churches. We share the same beliefs of Christian Roots, our Wesleyan heritage, and the celebration of the Sacraments.

We believe:
  • In God, who is one, revealed in three distinct ways.
  • In Jesus Christ, through whom we have the mystery of salvation.
  • In the Holy Spirit, who is constantly in our midst.
  • The Bible is the inspired Word of God
  • Human beings are created in the image and likeness of God (Genesis 1).

The UMC recognizes two sacraments, Baptism and Communion. We continue to participate in two sacraments today because Jesus commanded them and participated in them himself.
  • Baptism - the outward act of using water as a symbol for God's claim on our lives. Through Baptism, we are initiated into Christ's holy church. Learn more about Baptism!
  • Communion - we celebrate at Christ's table, where Christ, through the Holy Spirit, is present. In our service, we confess our sins, share words of pardon, and offering God praise and thanksgiving. We remember Christ's work on earth, but we are also empowered to continue to be God's hands and feet on earth. Learn more about Communion!

Grace is defined as love and mercy of God given to us because God wanted to give it to us; grace has nothing to do with anything we can do or earn (found in Ephesians 2:8). The founder the Methodist Movement, John Wesley, believed in a three-fold grace:
  • Prevenient grace - God takes initiative in relating to humanity by offering us grace - love and mercy - before we ever realize it or accept it.
  • Justifying grace - God gifts us restoration, redemption, and restoration when we choose to be in relationship with God.
  • Sanctifying grace - God transforms us through an ongoing process in our lives - we are able to grow and mature spiritually.
