Engaging and Serving our Neighbors at Walnut Hill Church
One of our core values at Walnut Hill Church is engaging and serving with our neighbors. We do this through our mission and outreach ministries. There are many ways that God is calling us to be the hands and feet of Christ in our neighborhood, city and world. We invite you to engage and serve with us.
Food Ministry Provides Fresh Produce for the Community - All Year LongWe have been in partnership with Lovers Lane UMC, Christ's Foundry, and our community partners in providing fresh produce along with beans and rice to families in need since March of 2020. Our distribution is on Saturdays from 9 to 11 am at the Inwood campus and we pack the bags and boxes on Thursdays. Register to volunteer for a shift and help us keep food on the table of our families in the community who experience food insecurity.

Project Transformation - June/JulyFor the past 15 years Walnut Hill UMC (now Walnut Hill Church) has hosted Project Transformation's Summer Literacy Program alongside Christ's Foundry. We continued that mission and began an after-school program in the fall of 2015 for the children at Cigarroa Elementary. Although no longer active with the after-school program, Walnut Hill Church still provides a vibrant summer program with Project Transformation which connects with 40+ elementary and secondary students through a day-camp experience. Students participate in arts and crafts, recreation, Bible story time and relationship building, with the strongest focus being on literacy creation and improvement. A primary goal is that children maintain or extend their reading level over the summer, and Project Transformation has met this goal with amazing success rates. You can read with a student. To volunteer with Project Transformation at Walnut Hill Church, you must complete a background check and Ministry Safe training. To learn more, contact walnuthillchurch@llumc.org

Thomas Jefferson High School
Thomas Jefferson High School - Coming Back Strong
In 2017, the Dallas Morning News reported a dramatic rise in homeless youth. Walnut Hill UMC responded by becoming more involved and aware of the homeless youth concerns at our local high school, Thomas Jefferson. After the tornado of 2019, Thomas Jefferson students moved to another campus. As Thomas Jefferson plans to re-open in January of 2023, Walnut Hill Church is forging a brand new relationship and partnership with the school.
To learn more about this partnership and what is in store for the future, please email Rev. Melissa Nelms.
